     MILL RACE WATERWAY

The Mill Race Waterway is all the remains from Colon's historice water power canal system which was connected to the Swan Creek dam on East State Street.

This was originally built in the 1830's to power the town's flour mill - which was completed in 1839 - served the Colon farming and agricultural communities for decades.

In 1941 the flour mill was demolished and sold for scrap, which marked the end of Colon's water power era, but the village continued to grow based on its large farming interests and the growing interest in magic.

With the mills gone for decades the waterway has evolved into a beautiful water trail in the heart of the Magic Capital. It is a popular photo op for tourist as this beautiful waterway and village main street are encapsulated along with history into the same photograph. Thus the location remains a historical and mysterious waterway in the Magic Capital.
